Truthful Tuesday

The days are shorter and the leaves are coming off the trees, which means it's nearly time to move the horses for the winter.

Dreary day on Saturday, but the leaves are pretty, and I mean,
P is always adorable, no matter the weather

The boarding barn is very full at the moment, so I can't move Eros and Shiny over until Bellino and Fefe head back to Florida. They are leaving early next week though, so it's very soon. One of the nice things about being at the boarding barn, is that we can ride no matter the weather since there is an indoor. (Hence why I go there for the winter.)

Which leads me to today's confession. It's pouring here today, and the rain will continue through tomorrow morning. Thus, it's a rain day for the horses. I have decided to be a real garbage human today for what's probably my last rain day until the horses come back home in the spring. I'm going to do a little Chanukah shopping online, and obviously I'll tend to the equine as needed, but otherwise, I'm sitting on my lazy ass all day. I was feeling really guilty about that prospect initially, but I've decided not to. Life's too short to feel guilty for taking a lazy day. Besides, getting holiday shopping accomplished early is pretty productive anyway. Win-win!

Truthful Tuesday

Today's confession? I'm on "vacation" this week (so far, I've only worked about 8 hours...) and I kind of didn't really feel like writing Truthful Tuesday today. But then I figured I could just confess that and so here I am. Last week was pretty eventful, so I promise to have a proper post for you all tomorrow (though it will be later in the day.)

Truthful Tuesday

Today's confession has absolutely nothing to do with horses, but it's been in effect for so long now, I feel I have to admit to it...

Several weeks ago my power went out for a bit and so I had to reset my alarm clock. Relevant to the rest of this confession: I use two alarm clocks. One traditional type and one old cell phone on which I set four alarms. What can I say? I'm a chronic snooze hitter. I need back ups.

ANYWAY, I had to reset my clock. And I was clearly half asleep when I did it because I set the clock for AM but it was PM at the time. Which means my alarm doesn't go off. Which is fine given the old cell phone alarm I also use. But the thing is... I KNOW it's set wrong. And I haven't changed it. Not only that, I continue to set it each night, knowing full well it will not go off in the morning. All I'm left with in this situation is one question: Why am I like this?!
(That's rhetorical. No need to actually answer that.)

Any of you do this?

Truthful Tuesday

With the cooler weather and shorter days, plus the sore ribs, I've felt my motivation waning a bit to really work the horses. Which... isn't good because we're still working back to full time jobs for all of them. And I was really feeling kind of mad at myself about the whole thing. But honestly, it's not a bad thing to have a few short and easy rides now and then. My horses are fine. And my ribs are feeling a lot better finally, so hopefully this week will be more productive.

"Really Mom, we're good! " -Eros (likely)

Do you struggle with motivation as the seasons change? Do you keep the same schedule with your horses all year long, or do you take easier weeks here and there?

Truthful Tuesday

I know I've written this same post before... but you guys. I will do pretty much anything other than actually clean my house. The latest edition of things I do instead of being responsible includes making AMAZING popsicles.
They're blueberry, banana, and maple syrup. Ridiculously delicious. Though definitely sweet.

But that really didn't take much time at all... so I also made more Chex mix. Because as we've already accepted, I have a Chex mix problem.

But that also is only like an hour long task, and does allow for free time in between stirring... so I also got started on another order of bracelets.

I would have finished them, but I made a mistake ordering supplies and didn't get enough clasps. So gotta wait on that.

Anyway, by the time I was done with all of that, it was close to 9 pm. Obviously that is MUCH too late to start vacuuming and washing floors. Right? Ugh. I'm disgusting. I really need to make an effort this weekend to actually clean this pig stye I live in.

Are you disciplined about cleaning? Have someone who comes in and does it? Prior to covid I had a cleaning lady, but I don't right now. Definitely is on the list to have again once things settle down.

Truthful Tuesday

You guys, I've really been slacking in the house again. Now that all three horses get ridden, it's taking all my energy away from being productive at home. But you know what? I don't even mind. So worth it to be back in the saddle!
But since I'm not getting as much done re organizing and decorating the house, my online shopping has subsided at least. So that's a positive. Plus, I think I've purchased just about everything on the internet at this point...
Anyway, my real confession today is that I've been absolutely terrible about cleaning my house. I ran the vacuum around last night and cleaned the bathroom, but like... everything else is dusty and dirty. It's so bad. I just hate spending so much time cleaning. Ugh. How do you all motivate to get that stuff done? Clearly, I need some suggestions.
My goal for this weekend is to finish up organizing all my barn crap so the barn will be neat and ready for Eros and Shiny when they come home. Fingers crossed I get that done!

Truthful Tuesday

Do you guys ever do something when you KNOW it's going to go badly? Not something major, but just like, something really stupid? Well I do.
I needed to find some bits in my bit trunk this weekend. My bit box has "feet" on the bottom that are basically just small boards that run the length of the short sides of the trunk. So one on each side. The one on the left is not attached anymore, but it's wide enough that it stays upright when the trunk sits on it anyway. Can you see where this is going?
So while my horses are away, I have my helper doing a real deep cleaning of the barn. He's been scrubbing all the walls and washing the floors. Even moving the trunks out out of the tack room to really clean the floor. But when he put them back, he put the bit box too close to the wall. I needed to pull it away a little to unzip the cover and open it up. Now. I KNOW that one foot isn't attached. And I KNOW that pulling it sideways would make it tip over. But I did it anyway. Because sometimes I make poor life choices. The trunk wound up tipping over into the box next to it and squishing my finger in between the two. And of course the side that tipped was the side with ALL the bits in it. So it was HEAVY. It really hurt! I shook it off though and went about my day. It was the kind of hurt that was bad initially and then was mostly fine. I didn't really look at it again until the evening when I discovered my finger is a total drama queen.
(Please excuse the fact that I'm still hanging on to those bits of my new years manicure....)
I mean, if I looked at that finger, I would think, "probably a little broken." But it feels like nothing, just maybe a slight bruise. It's almost back to normal today anyway.
So do you ever do stupid things like that? Basically, I was too lazy to trouble shoot how to move it over without crushing my hand, so I just let it happen anyway. Genius.

In other news, I can't save this till tomorrow... I got my cow boots from Celeris on Friday!!!

I ordered these at the same time as the pink ones, but they took a little longer to get made. They are ridiculous in the best way. And the most amazing part is that they are so soft, they didn't even feel like new boots when I rode in them on Sunday.

Alright, that's enough confessing for one day. Anything you need to get off your back? Share in the comments!

Truthful Tuesday

Oh man you guys. I was such a sloth the last few days. To be fair, I was away for the weekend, which makes it kind of ok to be a sloth for that time. But yesterday? My plane landed at noon. And the barn is closed Mondays, and I took the full day off work. So I had HOURS to be productive with. HOURS. Was I? Nope. I didn't even unpack my suitcase! And there's hardly anything in there, I was only gone a few days.
I did get a handful of things done. I changed the sheets on my bed, did a little online holiday shopping, and picked up a few things at Walgreens before heading to dinner with the book club ladies. But honestly, the vast majority of the day involved me sitting on my rear end.
Do you guys ever have days like that? Where you know there's a million and one things you should be doing, but instead you're sitting on your rear probably eating snacks? No? Just me?

Obviously it's not just me, the pups were there too!

Truthful Tuesday

I'm so conflicted you guys! Here's the thing (and today's confession) I'm SO NOT a morning person. Waking up is the hardest! (Maybe because I don't get enough sleep?) But I also love getting stuff done early and having an entire day left to catch up on all those things you never have time for.
This weekend was pretty hot and humid up here.
At least the barn stays coolish....
Balmy!
For everyone's safety, I had to work the horses EARLY both days. So I was up at five and on the first one by 5:30 both days. Saturday I had four horses worked and tucked back into their stalls with fans on by 10:30 am. It was amazing! I had so much time! An entire day left!

But the real question is, why can't I be that productive all the time? Why do I waste so much time sleeping and otherwise procrastinating? That's a question I'll likely never be able to answer. But maybe I just need to try a little harder? I dunno. Have you ever successfully transitioned yourself from night owl to morning person? Or vice versa maybe?

Truthful Tuesday

So it's that point in the year where I start thinking about how it would be really nice to be fit for spring... And by fit I mean 30 lbs lighter and maybe have some muscle tone and stamina. But also, it's cold outside and I need to stay warm! And comfort food, because let's be real, a foot of snow is depressing. Which leads to today's confession.
It was recently brought to my attention via Amazon that Planters (despite customer service telling me otherwise for reasons I'll never understand) has brought back the Cheez balls again! So I did what any logical Cheez Balls loving person would do...
Yep, ordered myself a case. Clearly, this is not helping me lose 30 lbs. And I'd be mad at myself, but have you eaten these? Not just any cheese ball, but Planters Cheez Balls? Because you would totally understand.
Along similar lines, comes confession number 2. The other night, I decided to have a full meal rather than just microwave a can of soup of dinner. My plans were foiled from the start. I wanted a rotisserie chicken at the grocery store which I was going to pair with a nice side of broccoli (see, healthy!) and some creamed corn (maybe not so healthy). So I get to the store, and there aren't any chickens. Boo. I really hate cooking meats, so I had to find a protein. I went with fish sticks. (Shut up, yes I'm twelve, and I also realize this meal is no longer very healthy.) Anyway, those were fine, the broccoli was fine, but I managed to mess up the corn. Seriously you guys, it's in a pouch and it goes in the microwave. I have it all the time. Very simple. Well. Smarty pants over here was distracted by something shiny and forgot to poke some holes in the pouch. It was edible, but kinda soggy. Such a disappointment.
On the bright side, I decided to give Freshly a try, so hopefully I'll have some healthy and tasty meals toward the end of the week.
It's obvious that I'm failing pretty miserably at adulting in the feeding myself category. But at least the animals all get healthy and balanced meals.

Truthful Tuesday: the one where I go to Walmart

I regularly go into places like Walmart and Target thinking I don't need to grab a cart on my way in. This is very frequently a large error in my judgement, but it does allow me to skip arm day at the gym. (lol, like I go to the gym, and have an actual arm day! Hahahahaha)
So on Sunday, I stopped at Walmart as the last of my several errands I was running. I needed a few things, but the largest of which wouldn't fit in a cart anyway. So I consciously decided not to grab one. Which would have been fine if I'd looked at my list prior to grabbing previously mentioned oversize object. But let's back up and trace my steps for the full entertainment value of this story.
Now, normally, I time my Walmart trips when there are very few people there. Like first thing in the morning on a Saturday, or late night during the week. Our Walmart is really tiny as compared to most, and is not 24 hours. (Just for reference.) Anyway, I went in there at one of the worst times. It was around noon on a Sunday. So fairly busy. Yuck. So people-y in there. I needed a bottle of Murphy's Oil Soap, toilet paper, some yarn, a new toilet brush for the barn bathroom, some storage bins (previously mentioned oversized item), and one more tombstone for my jump.
I think I'm being smart and collecting all the small items before heading to the storage bin section. Which I might add is very close to the registers. Such a good plan! But you know about the best laid plans and all...
So I get over to the bin section and am looking at the different sizes. I needed one for some saddle pads, one for the extra Halloween decor (that will also fit what's currently in use for later), and one giant one for unopened grain bags because the chipmunks keep getting into my grain inventory. I find the size I need for the grain, and work on getting that out first. I had to put all my other stuff down to unstack the bin I wanted. In the process, I dropped the Murphy's. Of course it has to fall cap first and explode all over the floor. Why wouldn't it? And there is not an employee in sight of course. So I pick up all my stuff and go over to the register area so they can get someone to come clean up my mess. Go back to the bin aisle (aka: the scene of the crime) and proceed to pick out what I need. Now, I needed a new bottle of soap, but figured I'd do the bins first so that I could hang out there until someone shows up to clean up the soap. I don't want anyone falling in my puddle! Some lady accidentally steps in a little bit of the soap, and is all I can't believe they would just leave that here! And I said, "no that was me, I went to get someone to clean it up, but no one has shown up yet." And of course I get the dirtiest look. Whatever lady, it's just soap. I finish getting all my bins together, still no one has come to clean the soap. I can't stay all day though, so I had to abandon the aisle eventually. Hopefully no one slipped in it.
So now I have all these bins, stacked inside each other efficiently, plus my other odds and ends. I pick everything up which is getting pretty heavy and totally awkward, and head over to get a new bottle of soap. That's when I realized I had forgotten my tombstone. Wanna know where they keep those? ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STORE. So I schlep all the way over there to find exactly one left. Thank goodness. I would have been pretty unhappy if I heaved all that stuff over there for nothing. Now that I have everything on my list (plus a bottle of apple cider which wasn't making the load any lighter) I dragged myself and my load of stuff back across the store to the registers. Finally.
You guys, it's two days later and I'm still sore!

Moral of today's confession: Always grab a cart.

Truthful Tuesday

Today's confession: I'm kind of terrible at adulting lately and I think I need a nanny. Today on Truthful Tuesday I shall list all the ways in which I'm failing at adulting, and why a nanny could be useful.

1. I stay in bed too long every morning.
I had planned to get up and go running this morning. I really wanted to do that. I was completely gung-ho when I went to bed at a reasonable (ish) hour last night. I was even somewhat gung-ho when the alarm went off this morning. But I DIDN'T GET UP! I didn't go back to sleep. Instead I lounged around perusing Instagram until it was too late to go run. A nanny would certainly be useful here. He/she could take away my phone and potentially drag me out of bed if need be.

2. I do not regularly eat a healthy balanced diet.
I'm generally pretty good with lunch. I usually have some kind of salad or sandwich. But dinner can get dicey. I get in from the barn between 9:30 and 10 each night and by then I just want the food in my face asap. Often I eat a bowl of cereal or maybe throw something like fish sticks or chicken nuggets in the oven. Not terribly healthy. On a really bad night I might just skip dinner and stuff chips and ranch dip in my face. If I had a nanny who cooked, I would be eating healthy balanced meals for sure.

3. I have many things on my to-do list that aren't getting done for no good reason at all. I need to schedule car repairs, trailer servicing, and order a cabinet for my feed room. In my defense I did call to schedule the car today, but everyone was busy so I'm awaiting a call back. Anyway, a nanny would be useful here, because while I'm at work, she or he could probably actually take care of some of these things for me. Except that cabinet, that needs to be on me.

I guess that's only three reasons, but they're all pretty valid. If only adult nannies were a real thing.

Do you ever have a hard time getting yourself motivated to do the simplest things? What works best for you to get yourself back on track?
