Truthful Tuesday

Heh... so this is kinda funny. I haven't actually been to a grocery store since lockdown started back in March. I've been having my groceries delivered and really love the convenience. But the thing about that... you never know for sure what you'll get until it arrives. I like to turn on the substitutions option because I like to live on the edge. But I keep making the same mistake.
I REALLY like the limited edition Most Stuf Oreos. They basically are filled with the equivalent of two double stuff cookies. It's sinful. And delicious. But I don't think my store actually has them despite letting me order them. You think after once or twice I'd turn off the substitution option on that. But I haven't. And now I have like 4 packs of the wrong Oreos floating around my kitchen. They don't even sub with mega stuff. They send the double. Which are good and all... but I'd rather they sub with mega stuff. ANYWAY, I have all these cookies, so I think I'm going to find a recipe that uses them rather just eating my weight in oreos for the next month.

What are you grocery habits these days? Do you brave the store? Favorite Oreo?

Truthful Tuesday

I've been trying to make an effort to make something yummy every weekend to have for snacks during the week. Sometimes it's brownies or banana brad muffins, sometimes it's popsicles. This weekend was popsicles and Chex mix.

These are Nutella pops and they're delicious

Obviously, that's not a confession. My confession is that I made the Chex mix on Friday night and I've already eaten all of it. That's A LOT. Seriously. It's 9 cups of cereal plus the other ingredients. I don't know what it is about that stuff, but once I start eating it, I can't stop. So I really shouldn't make it anymore. But like... it's so good.

So you have any snacks you can't be trusted around? Tell me about them... but maybe don't share the recipe because, clearly, I have no self control.

Truthful Tuesday

So it's that point in the year where I start thinking about how it would be really nice to be fit for spring... And by fit I mean 30 lbs lighter and maybe have some muscle tone and stamina. But also, it's cold outside and I need to stay warm! And comfort food, because let's be real, a foot of snow is depressing. Which leads to today's confession.
It was recently brought to my attention via Amazon that Planters (despite customer service telling me otherwise for reasons I'll never understand) has brought back the Cheez balls again! So I did what any logical Cheez Balls loving person would do...
Yep, ordered myself a case. Clearly, this is not helping me lose 30 lbs. And I'd be mad at myself, but have you eaten these? Not just any cheese ball, but Planters Cheez Balls? Because you would totally understand.
Along similar lines, comes confession number 2. The other night, I decided to have a full meal rather than just microwave a can of soup of dinner. My plans were foiled from the start. I wanted a rotisserie chicken at the grocery store which I was going to pair with a nice side of broccoli (see, healthy!) and some creamed corn (maybe not so healthy). So I get to the store, and there aren't any chickens. Boo. I really hate cooking meats, so I had to find a protein. I went with fish sticks. (Shut up, yes I'm twelve, and I also realize this meal is no longer very healthy.) Anyway, those were fine, the broccoli was fine, but I managed to mess up the corn. Seriously you guys, it's in a pouch and it goes in the microwave. I have it all the time. Very simple. Well. Smarty pants over here was distracted by something shiny and forgot to poke some holes in the pouch. It was edible, but kinda soggy. Such a disappointment.
On the bright side, I decided to give Freshly a try, so hopefully I'll have some healthy and tasty meals toward the end of the week.
It's obvious that I'm failing pretty miserably at adulting in the feeding myself category. But at least the animals all get healthy and balanced meals.

Truthful Tuesday

You guys, I'm feeling totally frazzled lately. There's so much to do and get done these two weeks before Christmas (and I'm Jewish!) that life is a little insane. Work too. Craziness everywhere! So I have lots to confess today.
First, I received my blogger secret Santa gift over the weekend, and I haven't even thanked my Santa yet... Sorry! Post coming very soon, and I love it, so thank you Santa!!!
Second, I have my blogger secret santa package set and ready to go (not the confession part, here it comes...) I wanted to ship it Saturday, but I got to the post office at 12:05. They close at noon. I work during regular post office hours, so I'm not completely sure when I'm getting this box out. So sorry to my recipient. I will get it out asap and make sure it ships two day air! I used to be able to ship stuff from work, and just pay them back, but they don't let us do that anymore. Lame.
Third, I've eaten more cookies and donuts in the last four days than anything else. My body doesn't even know what protein is anymore. (Sorry body.)
And the last one...
Fourthly: I was going to write up a big ol' blog post about how expensive boarding is, but not because of the obvious stuff. But I don't have time to write that today, and I don't want it to come off as just whiny, so it will have to wait. Maybe next week.

Do you have anything you need to get off your chest today? Holidays got you stressed? Want to punch that drunk uncle in the throat? Let's commiserate in the comments!

Truthful Tuesday

Ugh. You guys. I've been eating the worst food! I started coming down with a cold Friday night, which was impeccably bad timing given I had to run 5 miles in a road race on Saturday. It's a pretty annoying cold too, lots of nose blowing and coughing and general I-want-to-do-nothing type of malaise. And I've been using that to my full poor eating choices advantage. You know what they say right? Feed a cold, starve a fever. Since I have a cold and no fever, clearly the answer is eat all the things.  So Saturday after the race my running buddy and I met back up for a quick lunch and I was fairly well behaved. I had a bagel and lox, which is perfectly acceptable post race food. It's dinner that was the real problem...
I went to Five Guys. And our Five Guys isn't your typical Five Guys either. They opened it up right down the street from Way Back Burger. Way Back Burger is actually pretty decent and has some unique menu items from your typical burger joint. They offer fries of course, but they also have house made potato chips (yum!). Additionally, they have a pretty incredible selection of milk shakes. Thus, Five Guys knew they had to something a little different here to compete. They left the potato chips alone, but they have a small selection of milk shakes on the menu. Most Five Guys don't offer them. Five Guys has the better burger though, for sure, so that's where I went Saturday for my dinner.
AND I got a coffee milk shake.

Cause Moo. I mean, I ran five miles (with a cold... and IN the cold!) so clearly I deserved to eat like I'd run a full 26.2. Right? Sure.
But it doesn't stop there. Nope. Sunday was a nasty day, and I chose to spend it doing very little and snacking on everything bad. I'd say it was a success, you know, if eating crap all day is successful. Since I vowed not to leave the property that day, I had no actual food to make lunch come Monday. So what did I pick up? A Happy Meal. Yes. A Happy Meal. I mean, they are putting My Little Ponies in them this week, so it was totally justified. I got the Mighty Kid Meal which has six Mcnuggets instead of 4 because 4 nuggets does not a meal make my friends. Last night I stopped at the store after riding so I can at least turn things around for the rest of the week. We can just overlook the doughnut I had this morning... They had them for Halloween here at work, and one does NOT turn down a free doughnut. It's some kind of law I think in Connecticut.
Do you have anything you need to get off your chest today? Any poor nutrition choices made this weekend? Or better yet, did you make a  frivolous purchase? Something else entirely?!

Truthful Tuesday

It's always a little tough to get back to your normal routine after being on vacation. This seemed especially true today. While I was away I'd get up around 7, get myself ready and head south to ride at nine. I'd ride two horses, clean tack, then head back north to work for a few hours. After work, I'd find something to do and get dinner. Then home by nine to read or watch some tv. It was a pretty nice schedule. Now that I'm back home, I get up around the same time, though I should be up earlier to go running... Then work till 12:45, home for lunch to let the dogs out and hay/water the horses, then back to work until 5. Then back home to ride/lunge everyone. And then I planned to find some dinner, stop at the atm, and fuel up the car. Problem is, all the places with food (including the local grocery store!) close at 9. NINE! Which leads me to today's confession.

Since I wasn't done in the barn until 9:30 tonight, for dinner I ate something called a Tornado. You guys... It was GAS STATION FOOD! It's cooked on the roller grill. The ROLLER GRILL! Is that even food? Listen, if you don't see a What's Up Wednesday post before Thursday, send someone because the gas station food probably killed me. Oh, not only that, I dropped a Tornado on the floor. I told the kid to charge me for three instead of two since I ruined one, but he said not to worry about it. I wonder if it's because he knows what those things will do to me?

So what's a Tornado you ask? I really had no idea, but it appeared to be the best option. It looked like a cross between a skinny burrito and an egg roll. And it was filled with something that tasted like barbecue chicken. Hopefully, that's what it was. It was actually pretty delicious. I just hope it doesn't kill me.

Anything you need to confess today? How late are places open where you live?

Truthful Tuesday

Um.... I might have dove off the diet bandwagon today.... The day started off on the right note. I got up almost on time, completed week 4 day 3 of Couch to 5K, and headed off to work. I had one of those single serve boxes of fruit loops for breakfast. That probably wasn't the healthiest choice, but could be worse right? I mean, it's not a donut!
I took an early and extended lunch break at 11:30 to meet the vet for spring vaccinations and tooth floating. And this is when things took a turn. My convenient lunch place closes at 2, so I didn't get done with the vet in time to stop there. Instead, I had to settle for the highway rest stop. Options are limited there: Dunkin Donuts (long line), Subway (holy crap, they ROB you there on the hightway. NOPE!), and McDonalds. If you know me at all, you know it was an easy choice. I got a filet o'fish, a medium fries, and medium coke. Yep. That right there is when the diving off the diet wagon started. But it gets worse.
Once inhaling enjoying my fried lunch was completed, I moved on to the wall of girl scout cookies I've been keeping in my office. I ate a row and a half of tagalongs. That's like 600 calories. Totally worth it.
I had big plans of eating healthy for dinner. I was going to groom the ponies and then head to the grocery store to restock the fridge with healthy food. Except I didn't do step 2. I imagine you can see where this is going....
For dinner I wound up eating a microwave pizza followed by binge eating chocolate. Someone please remind me of today when I complain about nothing fitting me and my being excessively... fluffy.

Can you commiserate with me on this? Please share your story below if so. Have anything else you need to confess today?
