Truthful Tuesday

Heh... so this is kinda funny. I haven't actually been to a grocery store since lockdown started back in March. I've been having my groceries delivered and really love the convenience. But the thing about that... you never know for sure what you'll get until it arrives. I like to turn on the substitutions option because I like to live on the edge. But I keep making the same mistake.
I REALLY like the limited edition Most Stuf Oreos. They basically are filled with the equivalent of two double stuff cookies. It's sinful. And delicious. But I don't think my store actually has them despite letting me order them. You think after once or twice I'd turn off the substitution option on that. But I haven't. And now I have like 4 packs of the wrong Oreos floating around my kitchen. They don't even sub with mega stuff. They send the double. Which are good and all... but I'd rather they sub with mega stuff. ANYWAY, I have all these cookies, so I think I'm going to find a recipe that uses them rather just eating my weight in oreos for the next month.

What are you grocery habits these days? Do you brave the store? Favorite Oreo?

  1. Double stuff is my favorite! Fun story: we always left double stuff oreos out for Santa as kids because they were my dad's favorite and it took me, no joke, DECADES to realize that was why. It was just our "normal." Oh, of course Santa comes to our house for double stuff oreos!

I once had oreo truffles - crushed up oreos with a little bit of frosting dipped in chocolate. They were obscenely good. I bet they would freeze really well, too.

    1. Santa definitely likes oreos! Lol! I think we left them out too.
YES! I found a recipe for those using cream cheese, and I think I'm going to try it.

  2. I am crying laughing thinking about that many Oreos. I also now only will eat the Most or Mega stuffed Oreos now that that's an option. Frankly I want them to start selling the cream in like a butter tub so I can just eat it straight, screw the cookies... lol

    1. I mean, I will eat the double stuff... but there's so many...
And oh man, that would be delicious!

  3. I hadn't really been in a grocery store more than like 3 or 4 times for almost 2 full years prior to the pandemic. I've been ordering online for a long time, but was picking it up every time. Now I do a mix of delivery and pickup, depending on out of stocks. My preferred store doesn't deliver to my house (and they don't use Instacart), so I pick it up. My back-up store does use Instacart and I hate driving over there, so I get it delivered. :-P

    1. We have peapod here which is completely through the grocery store. They have a separate facility for deliver orders, so they pick and deliver it for you through them. Instacart doesn't come to me unfortunately, I'm like 2 miles out of range for them.

  4. the grocery store is one of the few adventures i've retained lol. my preferred shop is walking distance from home, and is very small. so small that it doesn't even have a parking lot, so esp in the early days when people were panic buying and hoarding and stuff, it was mostly insulated from all that. tho i did cut down on how often i shop- used to go 2-3x a week but now mostly just do 1x a week.

    1. That was true around here too. The smaller shops didn't experience the shortages like the big ones.

  5. I go to the store myself - there are 3 within walking distance and WFH makes it easy to go at a time when its not crowded (though 2 of the 3 limit store entries). I also get a CSA box delivered every other week and the farmer's market is open again. I used to go to the grocery store once a week pre-pandemic and get what I wanted to cook for the week. Now that we are living through this I go once every 2-3 weeks. We just went to Costco though at the beginning of July and I nabbed a ton of meat so now I'll just be getting our veg box 2x a month, and going to the open air farmer's market 1x a month

    1. There are a few CSA's around here, but none deliver, and are just far enough way to make me not do them. There's a new little farm right next to the barn though, so maybe next year I'll do something through them.

  6. Last I got romaine lettuce instead of scallions, and I don't have substitutions turned on. My friend got oatmeal instead of Pop Tarts. So you should probably be excited you actually got some kind of Oreo LOL

    1. It could be like that back when lockdowns first happened around here. I got a magic eraser instead of clorox wipes once! But now it's mostly pretty good.

  7. lol that is a lot of oreos! I feel like pinterest will have lots of good options for you! I've been going to the store 1x week since I've heard substitution horror stories about online ordering like this one! ;-)

Fun fact: we don't have as many flavours/varieties of stuff here like you guys do in the US. Namely oreos, pop tarts and m&ms. Kinda sad when you think about it! Also why when we go to the US, the first stop is a grocery store/gas station for treats that we can't get here!

    1. It's so interesting how things get distributed, and how much we take for granted that we have easy access to!
But I will say... England has way better chocolate candy than we do.
Can you get stuff through Amazon? Sometimes I get chocolate through Amazon from the UK. It takes awhile to come... but worth it!

  8. We live too far out for grocery delivery and scheduling pickup has been a mess, so Johnny's been going once every other week (instead of once a week like we used to). Meal planning for two weeks at a time was really challenging for the first couple of months, but now it's not so bad. My main problem is that Johnny keeps impulse buying frozen green beans for some inexplicable reason. I mean, we eat them, but there's a limit to how many bags of frozen green beans two people can consume.

    1. Ugh, I'm sorry! I am limited in where I can order from, but there are two stores that will deliver to me at least!
That's hilarious about the green beans. It's been so hot though, maybe just use them for ice packs!

  9. Is this where I admit that I don't LOVE the inside of the oreos? Like it's fine in small doses but the double stuf is just too much. I LOVE the mint Oreo Thins. But also pretty sure I'd eat just about any Oreo if we're being honest.

    1. The mint thins are good. I LOVE the pistachio thins too. Like I could eat the whole package in one go... But I think they were limited edition as I can't find them now.
