Truthful Tuesday

I'm so conflicted you guys! Here's the thing (and today's confession) I'm SO NOT a morning person. Waking up is the hardest! (Maybe because I don't get enough sleep?) But I also love getting stuff done early and having an entire day left to catch up on all those things you never have time for.
This weekend was pretty hot and humid up here.
At least the barn stays coolish....
Balmy!
For everyone's safety, I had to work the horses EARLY both days. So I was up at five and on the first one by 5:30 both days. Saturday I had four horses worked and tucked back into their stalls with fans on by 10:30 am. It was amazing! I had so much time! An entire day left!

But the real question is, why can't I be that productive all the time? Why do I waste so much time sleeping and otherwise procrastinating? That's a question I'll likely never be able to answer. But maybe I just need to try a little harder? I dunno. Have you ever successfully transitioned yourself from night owl to morning person? Or vice versa maybe?

  1. I'm still not a morning person, but I do get up most weekdays and workout at 6 am because I feel so much better after I do, AND because I know by the time I finish working, I am just not going to workout. When I had Promise in FL, I would get up super early and try to ride as the sun was coming up to avoid the heat of the day. But I also really enjoyed having the rest of the day to do other things or relax! Maybe make yourself do it for a few weeks and see if you can get it to stick as a new habit? You will probably never really enjoy it, but maybe you can get your body to tolerate it better :)

    1. I think it's tricky because I can't really ride in the mornings every day and be fair to the horses. It kind of cuts into their turnout time. So if I ride after work, I don't get done until 9:30-10 in the barn. Then it's doggo time and dinner time... and no chance of getting up at 5:30 after a midnight bed time!

  2. Nooo sleep is so good though, I can either switch to early early (wake up early and go to bed early) or late late but I need that 9 hours and I'm guessing you perform your best too with 9 hours of sleep. Maybe just more sleep? lol

    1. Ha, I might?! I haven't gotten 9 hours of sleep since college! I do pretty well on 7, but it's been a lot of 5 and 6 hour nights lately.

  3. I find the early mornings are easiest in the summer when it is light out. 5am in the middle of winter kind of sucks! lol I'm a morning person naturally, but I still manage to procrastinate - especially over a few cups of coffee. I've never been a night owl - it would likely take me months to transition!

    1. Oh for sure! When it's still dark out, forget it! I'm pretty good about not procrastinating in the morning, because I'm afraid I'll fall back asleep.

  4. Lol I’ve always considered myself a morning person and can get up as early as is needed. But. Uh. Simultaneously it’s sad to admit that I still haven’t adjusted my wake up routine since the clocks changed months ago lol and esp since I work from home I’ve gotten suuuuper lazy about sleeping in on most days. Tbh I usually get up earlier on weekends for horse stuff than I do for work!

    1. Oh if I worked from home I'd sleep right until 8:30 when work starts! Haha!

  5. I can get up in the morning. I just can't be happy about it. I have found it to be much easier now that I have a consistent bed and wake time.

    1. Yes! I CAN totally get up, I just hate it. I think consistency is the key.

  6. I am a night owl. Having to get up early for anything makes me very grumpy. I really can't do it for more than a few days without going nuts. I will just skip riding rather than get up early to do it. Horse shows are the only exception.

  7. I get up by 5:30 every weekday so I can leave work by 4:00 and ride. I deal a lot with Europe, Russia and India in my job so that actually works quite well. Its usually 7:00 by time I get home from the barn and then I have to take care of the 3 retirees at home. By 9 pm I am just done! But I've always been a morning person and always struggled to stay up past 10 pm.

    1. Yeah, you really can't be up later than that with a 5:30 wake up call! The things we do for our horses!
