I was cleaning up the feed room, distributing the new supplements to the appropriate drawers, breaking down the boxes they came in. That sort of thing. When I found a bucket I had forgotten about filling...
After I lost Jampy, and just a little before Shiny and Pammon joined the herd, I was putting away Jampy's things and getting rid of stuff I wouldn't need that had been his. I'm very much the type to file things away. (Possibly my feelings too...Whatever.) When I lost my Bud-Bud in college, the first thing I did was take all of his blankets down off his stall wall. I just have this need to clean up after something like that I guess. But filing things away doesn't mean disposing of them. And that is what leads to the bucket.
Does that make me a hoarder? (Maybe not, but the pile of crap in my dining room suggests otherwise.)
Anyway, there ya have it. I'm a brush hoarding weirdo. But I'm pretty okay with that.
I don’t think you’re weird to keep those. I would too.
ReplyDeleteThank you! It's hard to toss them. Maybe eventually.
DeleteUm, so I have an entire barn full of my old horses' stuff. God forbid my parents ever move and I have to empty things out!
ReplyDeleteYou can call it a museum, and then it's totally interesting and normal.
DeleteI still have all of Promise's things. After I lost her, I washed everything and reorganized it in my tack trunk. I do fully expect if I lease or buy a horse down the road that I will use a lot of the items again, especially the brushes, but for now, I rarely open the trunk and just cannot bear to part with the stuff. For a while, I contemplated selling my saddle because it takes up a decent amount of space in a closet and I'm not using it, but for some reason I can't bring myself to do that either, even though it is unlikely to fit other horses well :(
ReplyDeleteHey you never know, it could fit your next unicorn!
DeleteWe deal with that stuff in time. When I put Carlos down I got rid of all of his feed and supplements first, then I packed away everything else. I still have all his stuff including the size 76 Baker that is never going to fit anyone else. I don't think I'll ever get rid of his stuff.
ReplyDeleteI actually gave the vet his unused meds and supplements on the same day I put him down. I figured they should go to use.
DeleteYou should make something with that baker. Maybe pillows for your couch?
I still have janky, useless brushes tucked away in a trunk from the first horse I had to put down. I'm a purger, not a hoarder, and yet I can't part with them.
ReplyDeleteThey just seem really personal don't they? Like his hair is on them, and they smell like him... Ok, maybe that's weird. But they do!
Deleteaw <3 i'm the same way in some respects, tho possibly (decidedly) less tidy about it...
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how my barn life is neat as can be and the rest of my life is a cluttered disaster. Tale of two ammies.
