Truthful Tuesday

Ugh. Defeatist post. My friends, I let the weather beat me. It rained here for like 9 days straight. 9 days, no sun. NONE. Well... Ok, it popped out for about 5 minutes one day but I was stuck inside at work so totally didn't count.
I had decided to give Romey a few days off because his hives on his neck were looking particularly icky, and he seemed like he could use a break. Me too buddy. Me too.

If I don't look at her, maybe she'll leave me alone...

BUT, I had the vet coming Friday for spring maintenance. Also, my lameness vet hadn't actually met Romey yet! So I couldn't give him toooo much of a break. I think I rode him Thursday last week and then Friday for the vet. Not at all during the weekend. It was pouring most of the day Saturday and when it wasn't, the ring was a complete mess. Booo.

Jampy was worked the most. He was ridden everyday except Tuesday and Wednesday due to the rain and footing. The vet did some work on him Friday, so he required 3 days of vacation after that. Worked out well with the weather at least!

Cold hosing for dayssssss

Rio's having a bit of sore foot issue, but we think he just needs a little adjustment to his orthopedic shoe. Regardless, I haven't worked him either because who wants to work when your foot hurts?

So my confession is that I didn't man up and ride in the rain much during what I started referring to as "The Darkness". I could NOT muster up the energy and motivation to do it. Most days they had a brushing and a hoof picking. But honestly, I think I kind of neglected my fur kids a little.
Sorry boys. I promise to be a better mom going forward!

What's Up Wednesday

In all honesty, not too much was up this past week. But I'll fill you in anyway! Here's What's Up:

-It snowed again Friday. It made for a VERY slow commute home. AND canceled my Friday plans. Booo. Thankfully Friday night was rescheduled for Saturday night so all was not lost. I met up with some friends for a game night. We played a game called Quelf, which would probably be more fun with heavy drinking... And some apples to apples which is always fun. Though I prefer Cards Against Humanity. If you've never played CAH, I suggest you give it a go! Unless you're super proper. If that's the case, you'll hate it.

-It was still snowing Saturday morning. The weatherman said it would end by 4AM. He was incorrect. It snowed until about 11. 5 inches later it actually got quite nice out. I decided to run errands in the morning and tend to the barn chores in the afternoon so the horses could enjoy the sunshine later in the day.

*Disclaimer... I know I posted these adorable photos of my ponies already. But they're adorable and deserve extra postings.

Because when you think spring, of course icicles come to mind...

-I was supposed to run a 5 mile road race on Sunday. But it was 22 degrees with 15 mph sustained winds when it would have been time to go. And I had zero interest in that. ZERO. Had I been running outdoors regularly, I would have toughed it out. But I haven't been. So I didn't. Instead I spent the morning with the ponies trying not to freeze. It never did get above freezing Sunday.

-After feeding the horses their breakfast Sunday morning, I took a few minutes to lounge with the short kids. I think they enjoyed the lazy Sunday as much as I did!

-Who says having four legged kids is all that different from the two legged variety? This is meal prep for the tall kids while I'm away. If only I prepped my own meals!

-While it's BARELY been above freezing here in the afternoons, it has been sunny, so some melting is going on. Thank goodness! The horses have a small path down one side of the ring that's clear, and they've been happy to meander down to the other end! Also, I have not failed to notice that Mother Nature is melting snow everwhere EXCEPT where I need it gone. Well played Mama, well played.

-I accidentally took a week off running, but got back on the 'mill last night and ran 3 miles. I set the machine to SLOW and just enjoyed the time. I watched Pretty Little Liars while running, which totally made the time go quickly! Running super slow allowed me to skip the walk breaks too! I stopped briefly at the halfway point to drink some water, but that was it.

-Tomorrow I head to Florida for a long weekend! I can't wait to escape these ridiculous temps. (Seriously weather it's almost APRIL!)

Springtime in New England

It's officially Springtime here in New England. According to the calendar. And my seasonal allergies. But it really doesn't feel anything at all like Spring. Normal temps this time of year should be in the 50's. We've been quite lucky if we see 40's. Friday into Saturday morning we had a snowstorm leaving about 5 inches in its wake. But thankfully, the sun came out and it warmed all the way up to 42 by the afternoon so some of it melted. Then it refroze because the high Sunday was 31. If anyone knows where actual Spring is, please send it to CT. I promise we will be very hospitable! In the meantime, here are some gorgeous spring photos from the farm:

Truthful Tuesday

I'm already counting down until Spring starts. Winter hasn't even started. We JUST changed the clocks this past weekend. And already I'm tired of all the darkness. My horses are jerks because they're afraid of the dark. So riding them after work is like sitting on a time bomb. No fun. Add to that frozen fingers and toes...
Are you ready for winter to end already? Do you enjoy winter sports like skiing, snowboarding, or ice skating? I don't really partake in any of these, so for me, it's just cold and dark. Yuck.

Thursday's Threads!

It's that time again! Sorry for the delay today, I've had a sick horse and was busy tending to him and not sleeping... But anyway, enough about that! I finally have a springy outfit to share!

Pardon the awkward photo but I needed to show you both sides of the top! Love me some color blocking!

The shirt is from a brand called Mine. I got it on clearance at Marshall's for $12.00. Not bad huh? Love it! It's a little washed out in the photo but it's mint in the front and on the sleeves. The back is lavender, the sleeves/collar sort of a neon yellow.

The pants you saw last week, so we can gloss over those. They're the Earl ones.

I love LOVE LOVE these boat shoes! I got them last year I think from Gilt. They're by Eastland. If you're around my age, you definitely know what Eastlands are! They were what Sperry's are to kids these days ;) Only back then they only came in brown. These are mint, purple, and SEERSUCKER! Yep! What's not to love?

I've been donning my new "S" necklace lately (remember it from here?). And today it actually matches my outfit!

Arm party!!

Left has on my giant flower bracelet from Ettika and two bracelets by Nakamol from Little Black Bag. (And of course my trusty watch.)
Right is sporting a lavender and chevron bracelet by ETK (which I'm 99% positive is Ettika) also from LBB, a turtle bracelet I found on Amazon awhile ago (isn't it the cutest?!), two string bracelets from Pura Vida Bracelets (I love buying from them check out their website for all the good things they do!), and another Nakamol at the end!

Mani Monday

Since Sunday was winter once more, I had time to prepare for Mani Monday again this week! I know you're super excited. This week I'm trying to force Spring with my mani. If I paint it, maybe it will come?

You'll have to excuse my stubby little middle nail... He had an accident. Anyway, today I used Julep Denver as my base coat and Julep Antonia is the pretty pink glitter top coat.

I was pleasantly surprised at how well Denver goes on. It's not a very thick polish, but the color goes on really well. Two coats were full coverage with no brush marks or anything.
On the contrary I was kind of disappointed with Antonia. In the bottle it looks like a total glitter bomb. See?

But when you apply, it goes on very thin, with just a few tiny pieces of glitter left behind. I had to really fish for the larger glitters. It took about three coats to get a decent coverage. I do love the look though, just a little bummed out by the formula.
