I have a couple of confessions today. The first is kind of hilarious... Many evenings (ok almost every one...) after dinner and whatever chores need doing, I snuggle on the floor with my pups. They don't normally sleep with me because they wake me up constantly, but we get some snuggle time in before bed.
It's not uncommon for me to actually fall asleep there on the floor. Normally it's for an hour or whatever and then I get up and go to bed. Well last night, I never woke up! I woke up this morning at 5 AM on the floor with the dogs. Oops.
My second confession is that I'm kind of riding terribly. But not in a bad way if that makes sense? I'm struggling a bit because I'm really just getting back into everything, and I'm riding a bunch of different horses. (#firstworldproblems) And they're mostly all new to me. Eros is my one familiar, but since we've just started jumping again, even that is pretty foreign. So I'm riding the struggle bus big time, just trying to figure everyone out, but I feel like I'm not too far away from having it all come back together again. In the past week or so I've gotten to ride five different horses!

Sochi |
|
Fefe |
|
Eros |
|
Shiny |
|
Pammon |
And every single one of them is a different ride. Sochi is a push ride completely. If you go to your hand, your stride shortens and you chip. (I know from experience which I'll tell you all about tomorrow! He's not a regular in my life, I just got to borrow him this weekend.) Fefe is totally spoiled. She doesn't believe in going on the bit, or bending, or using herself in any way. But she's quite happy to trot and canter around the arena safely. Eros is perfect in every way. But he does expect that you work at least as hard as he has to. If not a little bit harder. Shiny is kind of lacking a go button. But there's a fancy pony in there that comes out when she feels like it. And lastly Pammon. Pammon is AMAZING. He has the most powerful trot, and the nicest canter. But for some reason I keep forgetting to keep my leg on and sometimes we break. Which totally leaves me giggling and feeling like a seven year old on a pony.
So they are all different, and they are all reminding me how to ride correctly. It's just getting the old body to follow suit. I think we'll get there though. Just gotta keep trying.
Do you have anything to confess this week? Do you know that feeling of being kind of a disaster, but you know the good is just around the corner? Share your stories in the comments!
Hunter and I regularly spend the last hour and a half in the mornings sleeping in the living room. Him in the swing, me and Tank on the couch. This morning I had a dream that my alarm was going off and I couldn't figure out how to turn it off. Well lo and behold, my alarm really was going off and it went off for several minutes before I was coherent enough to turn it off.
ReplyDeleteI have never been very good at riding a lot of horses. It's tough to switch back and forth. So I totally get that. I still haven't ridden my horse (thanks to dog bites, a smashed finger and now a ton of mud). I only have ridden the one time on the borrowed horse. My brain remembered how to ride, but it was tough on my body being so out of shape. I know it'll come back and it sounds like you're on the right track. Getting to ride often definitely helps. Plus, you're still getting to know 3 of the 4 of your regular rides and you're getting to know Eros again for jumping. So you're doing just fine. :)
Oh I've had that alarm clock dream before! So weird!
DeleteI only get to ride once a week these days, which doesn't help matters. But lately I'll have a really great lesson and then the following week, I'll have a not so great lesson. It's frustrating to be like, YES, my body FINALLY put it all together, this feels amazing, and then the following week, crap, I guess not, I can barely even circle. But, that is all part of the journey of fixing some bad habits that definitely didn't develop overnight and learning to use my body properly again! Also, I'm totally riding in a surcingle these days, so it adds a whole new element to my lessons when I don't have the safety net of perching over my stirrups :-D
ReplyDeleteLike bareback with just a surcingle?! I'd die!
DeleteIt's a vaulting surcingle, so there are 2 handles, but yea, essentially bareback!
DeleteOhhh. Yeah. I'd still die most likely.
DeleteToo funny that you slept all night on the floor! I hope your back wasn't sore! I love snuggling with the pets, but they wake me up if they are on the bed. And I have a lab, so we'd need a bigger bed as she takes up a lot of space!
ReplyDeleteI know the disaster feeling well...I kind of feel like that is my normal lately. lol
It's great that you are riding so much - I'm sure things will all come together for you. Especially with Pammon!
The floor was surprisingly comfortable! I have a fairly plushy rug in there at least!
DeleteYour many rides are completely adorable! I'm barely riding once a week right now so I'm going to live through everyone else!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteYeah, that was my life for awhile too, it's definitely nice to be busy riding again!
That is such a cute and funny story! I don't have any cute puggies to cuddle but I do sometimes fall asleep on the couch when I don't mean to.
ReplyDeleteYou really need a pug.
Delete**raises hand** yes.... i also know that feeling of being kind of a disaster.... lol
ReplyDeleteHey, it keeps things interesting right?!
DeleteI feel like I alternate between riding like a monkey and riding really good (for me)... without a whole lot of inbetween! LOL
ReplyDeleteYeah... there's a lot of all or nothing with horses, isn't there?!
Delete'Kind of a disaster' is my jam. Rarely 'full disaster' just hovering on the edge....
ReplyDeleteI think full disaster would be especially frustrating. Just kind of a disaster leaves you feeling like there's hope.
