Thursday's Threads: Valentine's Edition

 

Outfit Day! We're doing Valentine's a little early here at the farm. The horses only dressed up a little bit:

Their hats were a little smaller than I realized... Eros has a red one with little white hearts on it. Al has an arrow through his head, because obviously if one of them had that happen it would be Al, and Shiny's hat is pink with little lips on it. They're the cutest. And were very well behaved models today.

Here's what I had on:

Sweater: Modcloth

I mean really. Is there a cuter Valentine's sweater out there? I doubt it.

Belt: Equetech

I've done my candy hearts belt for the last few years, but this year, I went with this pale pink one instead.The sweater is pretty busy on its own so a plain belt seemed perfect.

Jeans: Flying Angel

I tend to avoid photos of my bum on the internet... But I had to share one this time because the heart shaped pockets are the reason I wore these today. I like the pink lace on the side too. 

Boots: Ariat

I know. You can barely see them. But these are the replacements for my old Ariat boots that gave up the fight recently. Unfortunately, these newer ones run smaller than the old version. They're fine on regular sock days, but when I wore my wool socks with them they were pretty snug. Kind of a bummer. Hopefully they'll stretch a little.

That's it for today! We're supposed to get quite a few days near 40 next week, so maybe we won't have too many more weeks of non riding outfits. One can dream at least! Happy (almost) Valentine's Day everyone!

Thursday's Threads

 

Another week out of the saddle means another grooming outfit today. I reached into the archives today for a fun bandana print theme. Here it is:

I've been avoiding jeans with distressing on them because it's been THAT cold out. But this week we made it just above freezing for a few days so it was okay this time. Plus these holes are patched. 

Sweater: Madewell

I'm not usually a red person, but I make exceptions here and there. Bandana print and buffalo plaid are favorites of mine, and I also allow it for Valentine's day sometimes. Though pink usually wins out there.

Belt: Lucky Brand

Isn't this cute? I've had it for ages and wear it a lot. There is a Lucky Brand outlet nearby which is where I found it. 

Jeans: Judy Blue

Aren't these cute?! The patches behind the distressing are bandana print too. They're a little brighter red than the sweater, but whatever. Close enough. 

Boots: Ariat

Yep, still wearing these. Sad news though, they have rotted through at the crease near the toe. I found a pair on clearance though that should arrive this weekend. I didn't want to have to replace these until next year, but I need shoes without holes to go traipsing through the snow on chore days. So here we are. 

 And that's it for this week! We have arctic weather coming in again this weekend as well as an inch or two more of snow. So I imagine we'll still be donning grooming clothes next week. I have seen mid thirties in the ten day forecast though! It's funny, I did get to ride some mid January, so it's only been a few weeks since I've been on a horse. But it feels like AGES! I hope we all (me and the horses) remember how to do the horseback riding when spring gets here. Haha! 

Thursday's Threads

 

We've reached the point in winter in which I have no idea what day it is. Thus, for today's non riding outfit I needed something to help me keep track of that. Here's what I wore today:

I took pics in the house because I wasn't shedding my layers for barn photos today. 

Sweater: No label

During the pandemic I invested in a sweater for each day of the week, and honestly they still come in handy when all the days start to feel the same. Each sweater is a different color, so that's fun too. 

Belt: Levi's

This bad boy is vintage. I think I got in the summer of 2000, but it may have been a year before or after. It's fun, each of the little leather sections is a replica of the leather label that Levi's jeans have on the back of them. It's fun! Funny story though, this technically isn't my belt. One of my barn friends and I went shopping at the Levi's outlet in Vermont when we were at the horse show and I saw these belts. I got one that was blue and white check with brown leather tabs similar to the ones on here. My friend really liked it and wanted to get one too, but when we went back they didn't have any left so she got this one. At some point she wanted to wear mine so we traded temporarily but then we never switched back. I kind of miss the actual one I got. I keep checking poshmark and ebay now and then in hopes that I might find it again some day.

Jeans: Kensie

I have these in two colors and I thought these were not the same ones I wore last week, but turns out, they're the same ones. I did laundry on Tuesday though, so at least they're clean!

Boots: Ariat

I'm pretty much wearing these exclusively at the moment, unless I have to traipse through the snow in which case I need something considerably taller.

Thursday's Threads: Non Riding Edition

 

Outfit Day! Unfortunately, no riding here this week, but I still have an outfit to share. We'll call it a grooming outfit since that's what we did today. Today was a little reprieve before the crazy weather comes, so I was able to get the horses out for a graze. Here's what they wore for that:

Blanket: Kentucky Horsewear
Halter and Lead: Two Horse Tack

We just enjoyed ten minutes each of the grass. I'm not sure how high the sugar content is when we're freeze-thawing all over the place. No one fought that hard about coming in though, so I think they were just happy for the opportunity. Tomorrow will be colder, but not bad, and after that the arctic temps arrive. Then the snow. Then more very cold. Should be something.

So that's what the horses wore for grazing today. And here's what I had on:

What an odd angle on this photo. I'm not sure if my body looks large or my head looks tiny. Maybe both? This is why I should always wear a hat!

Sweater: Vigoss

My mom got me this adorable sweater for Chanukah and I love it so much! It's cropped but not like show any skin cropped. Which is the appropriate length for middle age.

Belt: PonyLocks

This is Jampy's belt and I thought it matched perfectly with today's outfit. I should have taken a photo from the front though, because you can't see that it has a horseshoe buckle!

Jeans: Kensie

Kensie is one of my favorite jeans brands. They aren't expensive, but they fit so well. Like way better than most fancy options. I snagged this pair at Marshalls last summer.

Boots: Ariat

These are the same (VERY) old paddock boots you saw a few weeks ago. They're starting to show their age a bit, which I estimate to be around 15 years. Possibly older. But they haven't gotten regular use until the last year or so. I've been doing chores in them all winter so I have a feeling this might be their last winter. They've served me well though, and certainly don't owe me anything! I think I paid $25 for them a million years ago at the Beval sale. (Man, I miss that sale!)

That's it for today! Kind of a boring day with just street clothes and stable blankets, but what can I say? It's real life!

I put breeches on today just in case the ring thawed out enough to ride... But alas. Not quite yet. It was in the 40's today and there was sun so we're getting there! Anyway, I have a partial riding outfit to share today. The horses went out for grass for a few minutes each and it was warm enough to just have 100 grams on. Shiny is our model for this outfit today:

Halter: Valley Vet
Blanket: Imperial Riding

If I had turned the other way you'd still see plenty of snow, but from this angle, it almost looks like spring!

Shiny was THRILLED to get to eat five minutes of grass. I'm really careful with her grass intake. She's never actually been diagnosed insulin resistant, but since her hay rations are soaked, she's not used to much sugar in general. No need to overload the system. 

Here's what I wore today:

Most of this outfit is approaching vintage status. But one part is brand new!

Sweater: Democracy

This is the new item. Nordstrom Rack and Facebook teamed up to influence me with a targeted ad and clearly it was successful. So it's all one piece, what looks like a puffy vest in a lovely olive shade with oatmeal colored knit arms that are a wool blend. I especially liked the little vent in the back so it won't be tight when I ride in it. I honestly have no regrets about buying this. It's like someone made it with me in mind. 

Belt Strap: Unbranded

Belt Buckle: Vintage Gucci

I snagged this buckle from Ebay many, many years ago and it was old before I got it. I just love it, despite there being a chip in the enamel. 

Breeches: Ariat Olympia

I was searching my breeches piles for the right pants to match the sweater, when I realized I had a pair that matches pretty much exactly. These are so old, they don't even make this model anymore! I like them a lot though, and am glad to still have them. Especially now that I have this sweater!

Socks: Ovation
Paddock Boots: Ariat

These socks are weirdly tall. Like so tall I usually fold them over. Today I just let them be bunchy since I wasn't putting boots over them. And these paddock boots? I forget which model they are, but they're kids and they're thinsulate lined. I bought them probably... I dunno... 15 years ago? Maybe more? I got them one year at the Beval sale for some silly price like $20. They're still hanging in!

Outfit Day! I took photos yesterday because it was so nice out. Today involved a few more layers and lots of clouds. Eros is our model this week, and here's what he had on:

I'm no sure what was so interesting off the left, but he would NOT look at me for this photo. Looks pretty cute anyway, even if it's a pretty awkward pose.

I'm still loving these wraps for Eros. I hope they make new colors soon. But also I hope they don't since they are not inexpensive.

That's what Eros was wearing this week, and here's what I had on:

Sticking with the usual color scheme... Though the sweater is more teal than forest, so that's kind of a change! 

Helmet: One K

Those white spots on the helmet are from Al's pre-ride U-Shield. He gets to licking his lips when I give it to him and I end of wearing a decent amount... The things we do for our horses! 

Sweater: Ariat

This sweater is roughly 100 years old at this point, but I love it for spring. It's not too heavy, but warm enough to block the wind. 

Belt: Zazzle

You guys know I love these belts. Can you blame me? Look how cute they look on there!

Breeches: Equiline

It didn't come out well in the photo, but the branding on these is a metallic rose gold, along with the zippers and the trim on the pockets on the back. So cute!

Boots: Celeris UK

Here they are again! I just love these boots so much. I'll swap them out soon because the furry leather isn't durable for everyday use. But a week or two here and there is just fine.

Outfit Day!!! I'm so excited to not have 3 million layers on to ride this week. Such a luxury! Eros is our model this week, and here's what we had on:

I decided it was time to allow a little bit of blue back into our wardrobe. That's a sign of healing in case you weren't sure. That, and I still had the navy boots at the barn already from Chanukah.

I dunno guys, I think his dad bod is toning up! There's still a bit of a low hanging belly... But the butt's getting rounder and that hay gut does appear at least a little smaller.

My step mom made this pad for me, isn't that impressive?! It's actually a prototype for something I'm working on. A rough draft if you will. I've been test riding in it, and so far so good! 

Wraps: Anatomeq

These are the cool support polos from Anatomeq. I generally love everything from this brand. (Woman owned, Canadian company, highly recommend!) But these wraps aren't my favorite. I bought them because they're supposed to be cooler than your standard fleece polo. Which they are for sure. The first half of the wrap is a breathable material that's just ever so slightly padded. I want to like the material as it should on paper be perfect, but it's just a little slippery. The second half of the wrap, the part you see here, is like an elastic bandage, but with mesh stripes in between. I'm not sure what it is exactly that makes them not work quite right. But the wraps just don't quite move with the horse correctly and they kind of shift some when you're riding. I don't think they'd hurt the horse or anything bad, but I dunno. Something's a little off with them. They are pretty though when you first put them on.

Hey look! It's my navy helmet! Been awhile!

Sweatshirt: Quur

So this is funny... You've all seen my green version of this hoodie before but apparently I never wore this navy one. It still had its tag on it. I'm ashamed as I bought these... three years ago. Oops. Hey, I'm wearing it now! Also, it might be time to clean out my closets again.

Belt: Pampeano

A bunch of us got these at the old barn since it's their farm colors, but it was too nice for me to stop wearing. So I'm still using it!

Breeches: Ariat

These are super old, and they don't make them anymore, but I really like them still. I also have an olive pair. (If you like it, pick it up in another color... generally my life motto.) I plan to keep them around until they fall apart. They're kind of like the traveling pants. They seem to fit me no matter my weight. And that my friends, is a solid pair of pants to keep around.

Boots: Celeris UK

These are the demo boots I accidentally bought last summer. Hate when that happens... (No I don't.) They fit so perfectly it's like they had me in mind when they made them for the shop. They're almost fully broken in, but the left one did wound me a bit this week. Thank goodness for giant bandaids!
