Truthful Tuesday

Today's confession: I'm a total sucker. I fall for a good marketing scheme every single time. I don't even need a marketing scheme honestly. If you make something for my horses in hunter green and tan, I will buy it. Doesn't even matter what it is.
Let's talk for a moment about Back on Track. I hate gimmicks, and I'm always a skeptic. Always. Anything new and exciting comes out promising my horse will be more sound, quieter, etc, I will not believe it. I will wait for all of my friends to try it and love it, and even then, I probably won't believe it. (Unless of course we're talking about unicorn colored bits, in which case I will buy it immediately, but that's a post for a different day.)
Anyway, I've been told about the magic of Back on Track forever and ever, but I'm super cheap, and my horses like to ruin stuff, so I haven't really jumped on board. I did buy the back pad awhile ago, but wasn't very good about actually putting it on my horses very regularly, so I couldn't form an opinion. And then last week I got my Tack of the Day email and it had a special on the new GREEN back on track mesh sheet. If you bought a sheet you got a free neck cover. I then went and did a little research to see if was actually a good deal (it was, kind of) and still decided not to order.
But then I thought about it for awhile and learned that the colors are limited edition and the FOMO kicked in. I mean, my horses ARE old, so the magic of back on track couldn't hurt them after all. And the sheets are hunter green... So yeah...
Rio and Jamp each got one. Don't tell Badger. If you don't live at Winthrop Corner, you don't get presents. I got stupid excited when I pulled them out their bags to discover that the annoying back on track words are embroidered in tan. I mean, I'm not big on logos, but if it's the right color...
I've used them twice so far, and honestly, they do seem to do what they say. The horses were warm underneath but seemed to be quite content, so they weren't overheating. I threw them on before my rides on Sunday, and I was actually impressed. Jamp came out really quiet and relaxed (which rarely happens). He actually rode very similarly to how he goes when I used to give him perfect prep. It was interesting to experience. I'm curious to see if that will repeat itself. If it does, this was a great purchase!
Rio is always pretty relaxed, so I didn't see much difference there with him. But he was less girthy than normal and didn't need as long to warm up as he normally requires. Also, when he came out of this stall, he was very obviously in a relaxed state. You might be able to tell in the next photo if you look carefully.
Boys... Sheesh.
So to summarize, I got suckered into spending a small fortune on back on track sheets but I'm actually kind of happy it happened!
Is there anything that might make you more likely to make a purchase that you don't necessarily need? Have an opinion on Back on Track? Let's discuss in the comments!

  2. I am a huge believer of back on track (I own loads of horse stuff + some people stuff). I hope your ponies like the sheet

  3. I am such a sceptic about things like BOT, but after I hurt my back and was still in pain after months of PT, I gave the back brace a try and it REALLY helped me. Voodoo magic? Power of suggestion? I don't know why it works, but they do.

    1. I haven't actually used the neck covers yet, but I'm definitely going to soon.

  5. I really like BoT stuff but the price point hurts my cheapskate heart -- even though I know it works. But you can bet if they came out in teal it'd be a "shut up and take my money" moment.... 😂

    1. I was totally with you! The free neck cover was a nice incentive, but the fact that it came in green was absolutely what sealed the deal!

  6. "Is there anything that might make you more likely to make a purchase that you don't necessarily need?" Um, Amanda (900fbpony)'s blog reviews? I'm only kind of kidding...

I really like BOT - I thought it was kind of gimmicky, but then I met and talked to them at some of the veterinary conventions and they convinced me. We now have a whole host of things and I like them all. I really want the exercise sheet next in hopes it will keep me warm too!

    1. Amanda's been responsible for more than a few of my needless purchases. Why is she so damn convincing??
If they made that exercise sheet in green, it would be in my barn tomorrow.

    2. If I convince you my student loans come in green and tan will you pay those too?

    3. Probably not because my horses can't wear bills ;)

  7. Ooooh I am jealous, I had no idea they had them in green! I have the BOT leg quilts and the back pad. Simon does not seem to care for the latter. I'd love to pick up one of their sheets, though, and one for each dog, too.

  8. Ugh, I saw that. Thank goodness I don't currently own a horse, or I would have bought it!

  9. I was really down on BoT after the back brace did NOTHING. But the elbow wrap really helped when I tore the tendon in my elbow and now I have lots of BoT stuff. I really want the burgundy sheet for Levi.

    1. I think it's more helpful for soft tissue type stuff. Levi would look so handsome in the burgundy!
