Truthful Tuesday

Guys. I think I have an Amazon problem. Yesterday I nearly ordered all I would need to grow my own vegetables. Which sounds brilliant and all, but generally speaking I can't take care of plants. It would be very wasteful. Thankfully I came to my senses before checking out.
I also nearly bought a new vacuum cleaner. It's still on my list of things I would like. But I didn't do it. See, I have some self restraint!
So I have had a person clean my house for me for the last several years. Honestly, it's the best money I've ever spent. I just really hate cleaning. It takes forever. Obviously though, with The Covid, I'm having to clean up after myself these days. Which is totally fine. Except for one thing. My cleaning person has broken all of my cleaning tools and never thought to tell me.
Floor steamer? Broken in half. Swiffer sweeper? Half the handle is gone. The vacuum still works but I have no idea what she's done to the hose. It was connected improperly and it's all stretched out. I did order a new floor steamer and new swiffer handle. And truthfully, the vacuum will probably happen soon too... But at least those are responsible purchases! Better than clothes right?
I also go on Amazon every morning to see if hard to get items have returned. This has proven successful as I have a large pack of paper towels en route. Thank goodness, as I only have 1 roll left. I also found toilet paper, though that hasn't shipped yet, so my hopes are not high there. I still have some of that at least. Today I found some bathroom cleaner, so we'll see if that ships. Still no luck on lysol though. I would really love to find some of that!
So what about you guys? Have you developed an Amazon addiction? Or doing other types of online retail therapy? Any leads on where to order lysol?

  1. I'm splitting my money between Amazon and other online retailers -- mostly because despite paying for Prime, a lot of my Amazon "almost orders" are showing delivery dates a month+ out. When I can buy the exact same item on eBay and have it in 4 days. Soooo yeah.

I also had a bit of a mental break last week and spent more on horse stuff than I think I spent in all of 2019 (which to be fair was the year of house construction so all non-essential spending was basically on a freeze anyway haha). Did I really need two custom Mattes pads and matching sunshirts from Kastel? Probably not, but with Hufglocken's sale and the exchange rate so much in my favor, I couldn't help it... lol. The terrible part about that though is the wait time for custom items! Maybe they'll arrive by my birthday.....

    1. Um, yes. You DEFINITELY needed multiple Mattes pads. You don't want one to be lonely.
I think Amazon service depends a lot on your location. I'm (frighteningly) close to NYC so there's a lot of product (and ports) nearby.

  2. I've had my mom ship me toilet paper and cleaning wipes from Mexico. She's also taken toilet paper and paper towels up to my aunt and a friend in San Diego because they couldn't get any. I told her she's going to start a black market toilet paper ring.

    1. I'm calling your mom next time I need TP

    2. Your mom is totally a dealer. Hahaha! I got some TP delivering today! A pack for me and a pack for my mom. The things we get excited about these days...

  3. I've got Amazon pantry open in the background at work today and have been browsing snacks. I hope I have enough restraint to not pull the trigger but I seriously doubt it.

  4. Ugh the no housecleaner struggle is real. Although mine does the opposite and is constantly bringing her own stuff and then forgetting it here, which has worked out great because I found a full container of Lysol wipes she left in an upstairs bedroom, jackpot! We've continued to pay her through the pandemic even though she's not cleaning so we'll just call those some very expensive Lysol wipes, lol.

    1. This is terrible... I haven't paid mine. I am paying my barn worker who isn't working, but the cleaning lady I've been trying to work up the gall to let her go for the last two years... So this is kind of my out. I feel badly, but she doesn't do a very good job and she breaks everything.

  5. I've been haunting Amazon for candy. No regrets. I'm also looking for a good box of snacks that I can send to the barn to thank them for working during this, but no luck yet.

    1. Ohhh how about popcorn factory for the barn? Their popcorn is a little expensive but it's SO GOOD!

  6. I've been on an anti-amazon stint for about half a year now since Jeff Bezos can afford to you know, pay them more, give them actual benefits, etc. Not using Amazon can be tough though - it is ubiquitous with online shopping. I seem to manage 98% of the time though!

Definitely get a new vacuum. I hated vacuuming for the longest time and realized it was mostly my vacuums fault. I was using one my mom got in the late 90s. When I got my Dyson stick with wedding gift cards from BBB and it actually worked well - vacuuming became a short lived chore and I liked it again!

    2. I wasn't really into Amazon that much before either. But right now, it's just so easy and convenient. I do try to get things from small business when I can though.

And yeah. Bought the vacuum, should be here next week. I have an older stick dyson in the barn that I've been using in the house, but the big floor attachment doesn't work and I do want to keep the one out there for the tack room and bathroom.

  7. I was woefully underprepared for this. I managed to score a Costco pack of toilet paper, and *maybe* Lysol from Walmart. We'll see if it actually shows up. I've been stalking cleaning stuff on Amazon and it comes and goes in the blink of an eye. I just missed out on a multi pack of cleaning wipes last night :( Fortunately, we aren't leaving the house these days, but I want to be prepared for when we do.

    1. Wipes are hard to come by. I found a bucket of 900 industrial wipes on Office Depot. It's literally an enormous bucket. I'm hoping it lasts for awhile. Did you get the lysol?? I still haven't found any.

  8. Today I bought a taco hat and a tiger mask.

    Please don't ask.

  10. I almost bought something, and while the ship time for non priority items didn't bother me, the idea of over worked workers gathering junk for me made me feel bad. So I cancelled order. Nothing I can't live without. I did end up buying a BOT MIPS helmet 20% off from a different biz online. Support small biz right??!?

  11. I haven’t bought much from Amamzon, because they’re out of things I want like wipes and they had a 1 month ship time on the dishwasher detergent I needed, but Target shipped me dishwasher detergent in like 3 days so that was a win. Just placed another Target order for Oreos and candy and hand soap. A little local co-op market is doing curbside pickup for groceries and they have produce and chicken and even flour, which is awesome, but they’re kind of healthy/local/nichey, so I had to get my junk food elsewhere.

    1. Curbside is great, and it's nice to take the little drive too! My local independent store doesn't offer that service, but Mercato is delivering from there, so that's what I've been doing for groceries and whatever cleaning stuff they might have.
