Truthful Tuesday

Lol.... Every time I think about this I laugh out loud. EVERY. TIME! So you guys all know I've had a lot of rodent encounters between your normal barn mice (and that rat the one time omg) and the flying squirrels (and a couple gray ones...) that were living IN my house. So as you can imagine, I'm a little jumpy. Well. This is a funny one guys.

This happened the first morning I was here in Florida this trip, which would have been Thursday. I go and grab my riding clothes out of the closet so I can get dressed and head to the barn. I drop the clothes off in the bathroom on the opposite side of the bedroom from the closet. Then I realize I didn't grab a belt, so I head back to the closet. As I'm heading back, out of the corner of my eye, I hear a rustling, swear I see a rat (and it's tail) jumping off the shelf to the floor. So I slam the closet door shut and run over to my parent's room and wake them. I'm certain there's an ENORMOUS rat in my closet, and they really need to deal with that. Because that's how mature adults deal with such things, yes? Obviously. So they come over to my room, armed with a towel and some kind of stick or handle or whatever. We all open the door and don't see anything. They're kind of lifting things up on the floor to see if it's hiding when I realize all that happened was that one of my belts with a heavy buckle fell off the wire racking it was wrapped around. What I saw was the end flipping around the rack and then falling. How embarrassing...
So I think it's pretty clear that I have a mild PTSD from all of my rodent encounters over the last 8-10 years.

Have you ever had this happen? Freak out because you're certain you've encountered an unexpected animal only to find out it was something else entirely?

  1. I have ant ptsd. After losing all my food too them as a poor working student one time (ahem not my house or fault), it freaks me out to see them in a house. It's worse than being dumped in a puddle...I feel so dirty and violated!

    1. Oh ants can be BAD! And they are also disgusting. That's a valid thing to be freaked out about.

  2. I have some PTSD from having to kill the mice and rats that get stuck in the traps but aren't dead. Like they're too injured to survive, but not dead and I have to kill them and I HATE doing that.

    1. OMG. That's the WORST. Like, why couldn't it kill itself properly. I think they plan it to make you feel that much worse about the whole thing.

    1. OMG. Rat in the house?! I don't know why, but that seems much worse than squirrels.
