What's Up Wednesday

It's been a pretty uneventful week since I've been in Florida soaking up the 60 degree days. Sure it's a bit chilly for these parts, and we've had more rain than is really necessary, but it's SO MUCH nicer than home right now. It's been in the single digits pretty much since I left, and tomorrow they're getting slammed with a snowstorm that they're calling a Bomb Cyclone. That doesn't sound good. My flight's already been canceled, so I get an extra day down here. I'm kind of worried about home. My normal horse sitter is on vacation from today on, but my friend/tenant who lives in the apartment will be around and is willing to do whatever is needed. Thank goodness for having a great team around me! Now please everyone cross all of your crossables that the power stays on and I'm anxious for nothing.
But anyway, let's talk about the past week! I arrived, as you know last Wednesday. Thursday morning I headed straight to the barn to see the baby Badger.

I wasn't sure what to expect, as trainer had also been home in CT. Thus Badger had FIVE days of vacation! Yikes! He did get turned out everyday, and also spent an hour on the walker each afternoon, so at least he got out and some semblance of work. Fortunately, he was a pretty good boy. Our trot work went fine. He feels great, I think we're finally getting past this hoof debacle we've been dealing with all summer. He was a bit sassy for canter though, so I pulled out my amateur card (remember, I have barely ridden in 3 weeks!) and had trainer shut down that bad behavior real quick. He apologized and went back to being a good pony.
After playing with ponies, I headed back up to the house. We had some family friends coming early evening for a quick boat ride down the intracoastal to look at the holiday lights.

Friday morning I was back at the barn for more pony time! Badger was much better and we had some great canter work. AND I got to ride my favorite mare Cara!
Trainer even let me jump her over some little stuff. She's so perfect. Trainer and I are both pretty excited about the new Amateur divisions, because if Cara doesn't get leased, I may get to do some of that stuff! Obviously, I want trainer to lease the horse, but part of me hopes she's still around next time I visit...
It was a pretty quiet day after ponies, but I did go see a movie with the parents in the evening. And that was about it!
Saturday I was hoping to get to jump Cara a bit more, but the weather wasn't all that cooperative. We did get to flat though. Badger flatted too and was a very good pony. I think he's growing up you guys! Finally!
Sunday is the day off at Trainer's barn, so instead we took the big boat out off shore to catch some fishies!

In all honesty, I'm a total bad luck Chuck when we go fishing and we usually don't catch anything. But we had a successful outing. Step mom reeled in a Mahi Mahi first thing when we dropped our lines.

And then she and I took turns reeling in some sun fish. (On our boat, the women do the reeling cause we're strong like that!)

Sunfish are catch and release, so no close ups, sorry!

New Years day was back to riding the ponies! Since they were off the day before it was another flat day. It was pretty breezy and I was a little worried Badger would be a freshy pants, but he was actually great. Better than he was on Saturday even. Hopefully next trip I'll get to jump him a little.
Cara was a little wild. She really hates the cows next door and I didn't have a buddy to ride with so she was all alone. But Cara's wild is like Jamp on a good day, so it was nothing I couldn't handle.
Wild big mare!
We took a family shopping trip to the fancy outlets after ponies that day, but I shipped all my loot home so I have nothing to show you. Let's just say I spent the last of my holiday budget (lol, who am I kidding, I spent money I probably don't have) at Tory Burch. Coming soon to a Thursday's Threads near you! If I ever get home.
Yesterday we were rained out from riding. Instead I got to see the Wellington Dover store which is pretty freakin' fancy you guys! I didn't buy anything, but it was fun to browse. (I know, who am I not buying anything?!) I spent the rest of the day catching up on some work because it was gross out.
Badger was rained out again. He's wearing glue on shoes and he's at the very end of his cycle, so taking him out in the mud is not the best choice. I did get to flat Cara a little though, so it wasn't a total loss.
After ponies today, My dad and I drove south to visit our new warehouse in Pompano Beach. We moved a few months ago, but neither of us had seen it yet. It's probably double the size of the old place, and it was nice to see our manager down there.

And that brings us to now! I did a little work earlier, and now I'm planning out my extra free day of vacation! I'm guessing pony time and more working. But maybe I'll squeeze in a Marshalls trip too. Cause you know, I have a shopping problem. Plus it's going down to the 30's tonight and temps are only going to be in the low 50's tomorrow. Sounds like a good day for indoor activities.
How was your week? Are you staying warm? Getting snow where you are?

  5. OMG this weather! I'm so over cold and snow. I don't know what part of Florida you're in, but I'm headed to Ft Myers mid-month. Any suggestions for things to do?

    1. I'm over near Wellington, so it's the opposite coast from Ft Meyers. I don't know that side at all, sorry! But I'm sure it will be warmer by then. Have a great time!

    1. Haha! The words for these weather patterns are definitely made up... Bombogenesis and Bomb Cyclone?! I told my friend earlier my next jumper will be named Bomb Cyclone. Hope it warms up everywhere soon!
