Truthful Tuesday

Today I must confess that I've really turned into a backyard horse owner. I used to be super on top of making sure my horses were perfectly trimmed and groomed all the time. If I had a vet appointment, I made sure to trim the horses up, give them baths, and pull their manes. They were show ready all the time, and especially if I knew they were having visitors. Now?
Not so much. I have lots of good excuses.... It's mean to shave their whiskers, I don't want their ears to get cold in the winter/have flies in the summer, I can grab the mane easier if it's long... But really? I've just gotten a little lazy. So last night everyone had their manes shortened. I didn't braid them over this time, but will soon probably. Maybe I'll even trim them. Maybe.
Do you practice neat horse keeping? Are your horses ears fuzzy in the off season? Am I the only one with fuzzy pony faces?

  2. I trim whiskers pretty regularly because they drive me nuts... but this time of year? They're dirty and hairy and everyone still lives to tell about it! lol

  3. I don't ever trim whiskers or ears because I think they need them, but I have been a little guilty of letting Henry's mane get too long when it's not show season. I'm kind of trying to stay on top of it a little better now. Ish.

    1. I don't do the eye ball whiskers, but for the hunters I have to do noses and ears. The ones that don't show though, I've just been neatening up the ears if/when I do it. Not shaving them bald inside. Romey gets giant tufts growing out of them, so unsightly!

  4. I used to be super type A about it, but both of mine are woolly and shaggy right now. They need a beauty session stat.

  5. I really only trim for shows. I've been letting my horses keep their whiskers and ear fluff though. I just clean up the ears. Mane I try to stay on top of though.

    1. Yes! Romey gets tufts growing out of his ears. I call it his old man ear hair. But he's not old. Imagine when he is?! Yikes.

  6. My horses look like ragamuffins all the time. I'm too lazy to groom regularly let alone trim and pull hair.
