So since I'm behind on laundry, that meant I had no hind no-bow wraps for Jampy after our awesome jump school on Saturday (more on that tomorrow). So I dug out some old pillow wraps for him to wear instead. They're on the thinner side for pillow wraps so they certainly were up to the job of bubble wrapping my oldish man after a day of jumping big (for us).
Obviously, we used the matching front wraps cause Jampy cares about what he looks like. So here is where I must confess. Those pillow wraps are older than Jamp. And he's 18. This brand doesn't even exist anymore! I have two sets of these pillow wraps. I got them in high school to use for shipping which is the only reason they're still alive. I had a pair for Bud and a pair for Christy. They traveled together so obviously I wanted them to match.
Bud, aka Just Humour Me, my junior hunter, and the only horse to rival Rio for the best horse ever title |
Christy, aka Opulence. The most amazing children's jumper to ever walk the earth. |
I don't know if I'm impressed or depressed that I have twenty year old wraps. On the one hand, that's a feat to keep them in working order so long. On the other hand, how am I old enough to have twenty year old wraps?!
Do you have any items still in rotation that are older than you may have realized? What's the oldest equine product you have still in use?
Haha I mostly cycle through stuff and update constantly, but every once in a while I look at something and realized I've had it since I was like... 9?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think the fun stuff I cycle through, like bridles and saddle pads, but the boring stuff that's all the same tends to hang around.
DeleteI still have the bit and martingale I got for my first horse over 17yrs ago. I did retire the martingale last year because the stitching was going out and Peebs doesn't like the bit but I can't make myself get rid of them.
ReplyDeleteBits last forever. I always keep them because you never know if you'll need it one day for a different horse. It's not like it will wear out or anything. I have some bits that are much older than these wraps!
DeleteDefinitely impressive!
ReplyDeleteI rode in my mom's original Stubben when I was like 10-11 (the one she rode in at age 10-11), I rode in a western saddle she won around the same time, and we still have a bunch of bits, leather halters, headstalls, etc! At one point (I think I was 13?), I rode in a pair of her tall boots from when she was about that age. I love that we got to share things, almost 30 years apart.
That's really something to get to share stuff from when your mom was a young rider! My parents weren't horse people, they grew up in Brooklyn. So I guess I'm first generation!
DeleteThe old time leather stuff, as long as you take care of it and keep it in use, can really hold up a long time. The newer tack I don't think has that longevity about it.
My jumping saddle is 18+ years old. It's still in great shape and trucking alone.
ReplyDeleteMy saddle is 15 years old, so not too far behind yours! I'm on my third seat, everything is original.
DeleteI feel like I have seen these wraps of yours in person before 😉 Many, many years ago! 😝
ReplyDeleteHaha! You most definitely have!
