I took a long weekend away with some of my family for Father's Day. We headed off to Nantucket on Thursday afternoon and stayed until Sunday. It was so nice to run away from my responsibilities for a few days!
Thursday I worked until noon, and then packed the puggers up for their sleepover with grandma!
After feeding lunch to the ponies and making sure they were all set for the weekend with all of their aunties, I headed to the airport... Which happens to be right on my road. About 1/4 mile away. So convenient!
We all piled in and off we went! We had to make a stop in Hyannis to pick up my sister-in-law and the kiddos because they were vacationing there with her family.
The first night was pretty quiet. We got settled and headed into town for dinner. Lobster... Mmmmmm! And of course we had ice cream for dessert. Because vacation.
Friday morning I was up reasonably early, and decided I should take full advantage of my free time and go for a run. It was a beautiful day, and I survived 3 miles with just a little bit of walking in between. My time wasn't good, but I didn't care. It was nice to get it done and feel good doing it.
After that we headed off to the best sandwich place on the island for lunch. Post lunchtime, my sister-in-law and I escaped the screaming babies for a little bit by walking into town for some shopping. By the end of Friday, I had logged over 7 miles! I felt much less guilty about having ice cream for dessert two nights in a row!
Saturday we took the rental car and drove out on the beach for a picnic. It wasn't a bathing suit and swimming kind of day, but it was lovely none-the-less.
We had a low key evening, and the next thing I knew, it was Sunday and time to go. I was able to get this amazing shot of the farm on the flight home.
I was hoping to have time to ride when I got back, but we were a bit later than planned. By the time I ran the errand I had to do and picked up the short kids, it was six o'clock. And while I could have ridden everyone, I didn't want to be in the barn until 10, so I gave them one more day of vacation. Lucky ponies!
It was back to the grind on Monday, and they all seemed pretty happy to be working again. Though Romey is still off I think from that splint, and Jamp is no better with his current plan from the vet. These kids! Sheesh. I'm going to give Romey the rest of the week off, and keep on keeping on with Jamp because that's what the vet still says to do. But fear not, Rio is doing well at least! His leg is looking much better since he's been on the steroid, and he starts the weaning process on Saturday. Fingers crossed he doesn't regress!
The short kids are happy to be home. They love lounging around when I get in from the barn.
I'm abandoning all the children again for another long weekend adventure starting tomorrow afternoon. But you'll have to either follow me on Instagram, or wait until next week to know where I'm headed!
What's up with you this Wednesday? Do anything fun and exciting last weekend? Have big plans for the coming weekend? Tell me all about it in the comments!
Nantucket is beautiful enough to ALMOST make me want to run through it, too! ALMOST. :P
