Truthful Tuesday

Today's confession is that I have a new understanding of cold. I always believed that anything under about 15 degrees just feels the same. But that is very much not true, and I have learned that this year. You see, I experienced -8 for the first time the weekend before last that most definitely feels colder than say 10 degrees in the positive direction. VERY DIFFERENT. Trust me. But here's something even more interesting that I learned this past weekend. I will preface this by saying I understand wind always feels colder, but I always believed if you're out of the wind then it doesn't affect the feel. I now realize that is also not true. Sunday morning at breakfast time it was 0 degrees out which is cold. But the wind chill feel was -20. MINUS TWENTY! I don't even understand these words. I can assure you, it felt much colder than -8 real temp did last weekend.

So that's today's confession. Despite my intense disdain for cold weather, I was very ignorant about it. I am now better educated. And my disdain has grown.

  1. Lol, even *I* was coated in frost after doing chores on our -20F morning. There's a reason I don't live further north.

    1. It's CRAZY! I always thought I would not be able to live any further north, and this winter definitely solidifies that hypothesis!

  2. The wind recently has been no joke…. My hundred year old high rise apartment building generally stays pretty warm, but when the wind gets blowing (esp since I’m on the weather side of the building and the windows are ALSO a hundred years old…) yea it’s bone chilling …. Bleh

    1. Oh my goodness I can only imagine being up high like that! I can feel the wind coming into my house too. But not all that shockingly the 1759 portion of my house is less drafty than the 1970's addition. They really don't build things like they used to!
